FIRST PAYMENT DATE NEARS

FOR 2008 NMID IRRIGATION DISTRICT TAXES

                The first payment date is less than two weeks away for 2008 irrigation district tax

assessments from the Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District,  NMID officials announced

today.

                The annual tax assessment can be paid in full or in two parts; however, the first

payment must be received or postmarked by Monday, December 22.

                Normally, the payment deadline is December 20, but this year that date falls on a

Saturday so the deadline was extended two days to Monday, December 22.  Irrigation

District tax notices were mailed to more than 37,000 Treasure Valley residents in October.

                Idaho law requires that tax liens be filed each year against the property if the

assessments are not paid by June 20 of the following year. The District is currently moving

forward with tax deed action against 88 properties for which tax levies have gone unpaid.

Tax deed action can eventually lead to property being sold at a tax auction if the owner

refuses to pay the assessments.

                Property owners who owe tax assessments from previous years will find their past

due tax assessment information included in this year’s notice.  A list of individuals owing

back taxes will be available on the District’s Internet web site in January.

                NMID is also asking taxpayers to promptly notify the District with name and

address change when they either purchase or sell land.  This enables the District to make

the appropriate change to the District's records for ownership and notice mailing purposes,

which helps in getting tax notification information to the property owner.

                Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District is a water storage, conveyance and

distribution system that supplies irrigation water to some 69,000 acres of farms, lawns and

gardens in Canyon and Ada Counties plus pressurized urban irrigation to nearly 15,000

individual parcels of land.  The District has served the Treasure Valley since 1904.
