Nampa , Idaho – June 5, 2008

June 20th is a important date for Treasure Valley residents whose properties are in the
Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District because that is the date by which they must have paid in
full their 2007 irrigation district taxes, District officials said today.
Taxes unpaid after that date will result in the individuals being listed as delinquent.
Currently there are approximately 6,200 Treasure Valley properties for which the full 2007
irrigation district taxes have not be paid in full.
The District mailed 2007 tax levy notices to more than 36, 000 property owners last
October.  NMID officials stress that individuals who own property inside the District but who
did not receive a tax levy notice should contact the District right away at 466-7861 .
Residents are given the option of paying the assessment in full or in two parts –
December and June.  June 20 is the second-payment deadline for those residents who chose
to make two payments.
Under Idaho law, failure to pay the tax levy will eventually result in a lien against the
property followed by tax deed action which could potentially result in the property being sold
at auction to satisfy the back taxes.
Residents can check to see whether their previous year’s NMID taxes are paid by
visiting the District’s web site:  www.nmid.org.  The web site contains a listing of the names of
property owners and a legal description of the parcel of land that are delinquent more than
one full year in NMID taxes.
The unpaid taxes section of the District’s web site currently lists the names of
individuals, businesses and government agencies whose irrigation tax levies currently need
to be paid, including property owners who have not paid their assessments for calendar years
2004 - 2006.
The taxes are used to pay for operation and maintenance of the canals, laterals, drains
and dams that make up the District's water delivery system.  Levies also are assessed
against individual subdivision parcels using pressurized irrigation systems in subdivisions
around the valley.
People with questions about their assessment payment or the Nampa & Meridian
Irrigation District should call the District office at 466-7861 .
The Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District is a water storage, conveyance and
distribution system founded in 1904.  The District supplies irrigation water to some 69,000
acres of farmland and pressurized irrigation to more than 14,800 individual parcels of land in
Ada and Canyon counties.  More information about the District is also available on its Internet
web site:  www.nmid.org.
